Augusta’s Fashion Police: Jason Day’s Birdie Binge Gets Grounded

A little Pun on a Monday

If you thought the toughest hazard at Augusta National was the slick greens of Amen Corner, you clearly haven't met the "Green Jackets" in charge of the wardrobe department.

Australian star Jason Day arrived at the 2026 Masters ready to commune with nature. Partnering with the trend-setting (and occasionally rule-bending) Malbon Golf, Day prepared an ensemble from their "Birds of Georgia" collection.

We’re talking a literal aviary on a shirt: cardinals, orioles, and woodpeckers all hitching a ride on the former World No. 1.

The theory? According to Malbon founder Stephen Malbon, if you’re "tuned in with the sounds of birds, you’ll make more birdies."

It’s high-fashion science, people.

The "No-Fly" Zone

Unfortunately for Jason, Augusta National prefers their birds on the scorecard, not the slacks.

Reports surfaced that Day was gently—but firmly—told to ditch the matching bird-print pants during his Monday practice round in favor of something a bit more... "stationary."

This isn't Day's first brush with the Augusta Style Sheriffs. You might remember the Great Vest Incident of 2024, where a "Malbon Golf Championship" sweater disappeared mid-round after a "call from high above." Apparently, at the Masters, the only thing allowed to be loud is the roar of the crowd on Sunday.

Bird-Watching Wednesday?

Despite the pant-based setback, Day isn't grounded just yet. He’s still expected to sport a bird-themed vest for Wednesday’s practice. Whether he’ll be allowed to keep it on long enough to finish the back nine remains the week's biggest cliffhanger.

Jason says he’s "not here to step on anyone’s toes," but with these fits, he’s certainly ruffle-ing a few feathers.

Since the 2026 Masters doesn't officially kick off until April 9th, Augusta National is keeping those tee times under lock and key for a little bit longer.

They usually drop the official Thursday/Friday pairings on the Tuesday or Wednesday of tournament week.

Where to find them once they drop:

  • The Official Source: Keep an eye on the Masters Pairings Page.

  • The "Birdie" Watch: If Jason Day’s vest survives the Wednesday Par 3 Contest, he’ll likely be in one of the featured groups on Thursday—Augusta loves a bit of drama, even if they pretend they don't.
